hello.

This is a simple, everyday blog about the things that make me tick. Welcome to my new adventure.

baby holscher's baby shower!

baby holscher's baby shower!

Baby oh baby! Was I ever feeling the love last weekend!

I flew back to Vancouver for a quick 2 day trip to visit my family, but because my lovely mother and BFF were throwing me a baby shower.

I will admit, I've never been on 'this side' before, and by this side, I mean showered with gifts (birthdays don't count), where I've had to register for something, sit on a throne while I open presents and people sit and observe and go ohhhhh and ahhhh. I've been to countless weddings and baby showers where I've purchased items off registries, but I've never been the centre of attention like this. Plus this was coming off the heels of our engagement party and my going-away party, so I felt spoiled and tired of the spotlight by this point.

But then I read a blog post by Eva Amurri Martino who runs a blog called Happily Eva After (I'm obsessed with her blog, snapchat and little family. ADORABLE). She wrote a blog post about baby showers and said even just knowing that those close to you are taking time out of their busy schedules to celebrate you and the epic journey you are about to embark upon can be so soothing to those pre-birth jitters.  Take advantage of this special celebration! Make sure you are enjoying every minute and setting up your special day so that you can truly bask in the glory of it.  These moments pass us by so quickly.

So I embraced it and I did enjoy every second of it. I felt so blessed to be surround by such amazing women who cared enough to show up and celebrate with me (and Nate in spirit as he was back home). Not to mention, the amount of work that my BFF Tara and mother put into throwing this event. I wanted a high tea-like themed shower, so my mother - who is the consummate chef - made homemade scones from scratch, mini high tea sandwiches, ordered a cake with pic included (see below) and bought cases of wine. My BFF bought the most adorable baby-themed cupcakes, coordinated all of the invites and so much more.

It's not a baby shower without carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (MY FAVE!) and your pic scanned on top.

I've said it before, I am so lucky to have the friends and family that I do and its definitely the one thing I miss the most since leaving Vancouver. They are my support network, my tribe, my shoulders to cry on and my biggest cheerleaders, so to see them all wrangled up again in one place celebrating a milestone in our lives, was tremendously gratifying.

I also had another surprise - my parents had my dear Aunt Sigi fly in from Calgary to join in on the celebration! She's not my biological aunt but she has known me since I was born. My father  worked with her years ago in Ontario when my dad was just getting started out in his career. She has visited us in all the homes and cities we've lived in (from Toronto to St. Johns to Vancouver) and she is a lovely soul....who doesn't seem to age! Trust me, you won't believe me if I told you her age:)

Baby Holscher was spoiled! We received so many wonderful gifts and we still keep getting deliveries to the house. It's like a FedEx Depot and feels like Christmas at our house everyday. Not to mention the amount of hand-me-downs we've received from friends and family. Sharing is caring, right?

Me and my BFF have 20+ years of friendship. We have seen each other through it all. Love this woman so much!

My amazing parents. I can't thank you enough for the love & support you've given me throughout my life. I too, will soon realize what unconditional love feels like in 8 short weeks.

Tara, Robyn and Anna. I look to these women (who are all successful, working moms) for advice. We go back MANY years!

Joanne (Jojo), me, Kimberlee, Katie and Angela. Another group of amazing, talented, successful women (and some moms). Most are my #WSC crew from my old hood. Inside thing, but basically the BEST neighbours a girl could have.

Thank you to every single one of you for supporting us in this journey, showing up, and celebrating with me! These pics are just a small glimpse of those who attended, but I will be writing thank you notes until the cows come home. Personally, it's all worth it.
