hello.

This is a simple, everyday blog about the things that make me tick. Welcome to my new adventure.

the 'ah-ha' moment

the 'ah-ha' moment

Have you ever had an ah-ha moment?

I bet if I asked each and every one of you, you'd throw your hand in the air, eager to share it with me, right? A girl can only dream...

{SIDE NOTE: Seriously, if you have one...or ten, please share in the comments section below - I'd LOVE to hear!}

Oprah might as well have trademarked 'ah-ha moment' because she really solidified the term and truly made it a part of pop culture as we know it today.  Whenever anyone hears or uses the phrase,  they likely think of the Big O. To add to that, Webster's Dictionary actually added this term in 2012, after, well you know who.

Ah-ha moment is defined as a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition or comprehension. Also known as the Eureka Effect.

I have felt all of these and I'm sure you have too.

I'll admit to having a few ah-ha moments in my life. Some GREAT, some not so great, some that brought me to tears, some tragic, some unexpected and by surprise and some that completely shifted my life in ways I never could have imagined.

Full disclosure: Smart Cookies happened because of an ah-ha moment I had back in 2006, after watching an episode of Oprah's Debt Diet Show. And we all know how THAT turned out!

I remember one of the first ah-ha moments I had, when I realized that I was not going to become the surgeon I always thought I would (dreams crushed...sigh). It was when I knew I was destined to be a marketer - filling my days with creative thoughts, designs, ad campaigns, digital media and strategic initiatives. Considering that I wanted to be in an industry similar to my mothers (she was da BOMB at nursing and ate, slept and breathed it - the kind of nurse you wanted taking care of you), I still can't believe to this day I ended up in business, dealing with 'suits' (and not always the Harvey Spector kind of suits....hubba hubba). A profession similar to my father's, who worked in an office all day, sat at a desk, full of corporate, stuffy people (truth be told, he was a brilliant CMA, who climbed up the proverbial corporate ladder, succeeded early on in his career, travelled the globe meeting & schmoozing with government dignitaries - all while staying at the Plaza Hotel in NYC - fundraising money & building capital, managing law firms and he did this with the upmost respect from his peers, a whole lotta fairness to those he worked with and only the kind of humbleness that would make anyone jealous).

But it really is no surprise to me where I ended up, now that I'm in my late thirties and have had a few years to grow up and reflect on the professional path I chose to take. This ah-ha moment was pivotal in my life, which has taken me to where I am now and resulted in a whole bunch of other ah-ha moments I remember so fondly and hold so close to my heart. From career changes, broken hearts, finding love, taking risks, being vulnerable, and so much more. For that I am eternally grateful for each and every one of those ah-ha moments.

I'm a BIG believer in things happening for a reason. Not because of fate or the goody-goody, hippity-dippity feel-good signs, but truly things happening for a reason. That timing is everything when it comes to anything in life. For those of you who have felt this and experienced it, you know what I mean. They are the most impactful, moving, life-changing, earth-shattering, hallelujah ah-ha moments that happen....when you least expect it of course. But often the timing is perfect, you just don't know it at the time.

Still don't believe me? Check out this infographic below and read all about how some famous people had their ah-ha moment. You may have heard of a couple of them, and they all had to start somewhere.

So, I'll ask again: have you ever had an ah-ha moment?
