two thousand sixteen
Every year when we start to approach a New Year, I can't believe how quickly the year has passed.
Two thousand sixteen was no exception, but it was a pretty exceptional year. Filled with loads of change, new beginnings, new cities, personal transformations, oh and did I mention, I had a baby?!
Let's start with the fact that I got engaged on Christmas Day 2015, then packed up my life in Vancouver, rented my beloved town home out, quit my job, and moved to Grande Prairie, AB to be with my fiancee. Then 2 weeks later, flew back to Vancouver to wrap up work, celebrated our engagement and had a party, got pregnant, found a new job and proceeded to settle in by turning this epic bachelor pad of a house into a cozy home decorated in colours of grey, white, golds and blacks. And no, my fiancee didn't leave me. He watched on as his home became less masculine, shall we say. Either way, he didn't put up a fight and embraced it like a man!
Like I've said in the past, I never stop learning no matter how old I get and if there is one thing I've learned during this year of change, its that resilience and perspective go hand in hand. I still question whether moving up north was a good move because I am still struggling to settle in most days. I love the little life Nate and I have created and I can't imagine being with anyone else, but I so desperately miss the urban, city life, my friends and family and all the familiarities I called home. I'm amazed at how resilient one person can be when they are determined to make something work.
But I've learned to keep things in perspective because having a solid, healthy relationship with a man who is madly in love with me, and with whom I've started a family with, is exactly what I wished for my entire life. When I was single, I envied those who had that sort of life. Now I have it, its a life I'm excited live. I count my blessings everyday because I am so, so lucky.
So as we wrap up another year, I can't help but wonder if 2016 was the most transformational for me. I guess that remains to be seen, but taking on a life-long partner, new job, new home, new city and motherhood is by far some of my biggest accomplishments I've achieved so far.
Wishing everyone a happy, prosperous and champagne-filled 2017!
