CONTRIBUTED // not your same old wall art
While social media often results in us spending an abundance of time looking at ridiculous things that have no real bearing on our lives (i.e. April The Giraffe), we can also discover some pretty wonderful things that can enhance our lives and, in this case, our walls. The following are three incredible artists I was lucky to stumble upon on social media:
A mom of 3 under 6, Candice Richards is a lawyer during the day and a badass artist once the kiddos are in bed. She has no formal art training and only starting painting when she needed some artwork for her dining room. Her large canvas pieces are a unique combination of things like graffiti, luxury brand logos and words of wisdom and they are sure to be a conversation piece whenever you have guests over.
Rachel Wadlow Art
If you love abstract art then you will love Rachel Wadlow’s personalized paintings. You give her a photo (wedding, engagement, etc.) and she will create a gorgeous abstract painting on thick water color paper based on that photo. Not only do you get a one-of-a-kind, beautiful painting, but it’s even more unique because it’s based on a photo of your special occasion.
Chels Draws You
Chelsea Lundy produces custom portraits but she does it in a truly unique way – a process she calls digital finger painting. It started as a fun hobby drawing friends and celebrities using a sketch app on her iPhone but quickly turned into a passion that is now in high demand. You give her a photo of 1-10 people (pets also welcome!) and she’ll sketch a custom portrait based on that photo.
So if your walls could use a little updating or you’re tired of seeing the same old things at Home Sense, perhaps these talented artists are just what you’re looking for.
Melissa Hopper lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband and two young children. She is the office manager at a publishing company and, formerly a newspaper columnist, but has recently found her passion for writing again after a 10 year hiatus. Melissa is the often snarky voice behind the Instagram account @MommyWifeyWino. She enjoys travelling, being sarcastic and having a good glass of red wine. In addition to writing for adults, Melissa also writes picture books for children.
